Halloween

Carson as Darth Vader with deep breathing mask and light saber

Lexie as a Snow Princess but many people thought she was Princess Leia from Star Wars because of Carson's costume (a princess is a princess)

My kids are growing up and as a result Zach is getting too old to trick or treat. I was way more sad than he was about the whole thing. He hung out with friends and did the teenager thing. Earlier in the week he even went to his first haunted house, and loved it.

I cannot tell you how nice it was to see kids running up and down the street trick or treating like it is supposed to be. I could enjoy and really look at each child that came to my house, and we had a lot of them. Carson and Lexie had a great time. We finished the night visiting at my Grandpa Kay's house.

It is going to be a great day!

You know what kind of day you are going to have when you start it out like I did. I got up with Zach when he went to school and I was not hungry yet, so I waited for Carson and Lexie to eat my own breakfast which I rarely eat anyway. Carson wanted eggs so I made us all eggs. So far so good. We ate our eggs and Carson was still hungry so he asked for cereal, then Lexie was still hungry and had some cereal. I poured myself a glass of milk and drank it, saying to myself that is not quite right, so I take another swallow. Then I know for sure that it is not good milk as I throw up a little in my mouth. I quickly tell the kids to quit eating the cereal the milk is bad, and not one but both children look at me straight in the eyes and keep eating. That is when it was all over and I went running with my mouth covered to make it to the toilet in time. I threw up all my eggs, walked out and ran back to do it all again. I had Carson take out the crappy milk to the outside trash before I did it again. So you are wondering how this even happened, keep in mind I was out of town for the fall break and neither Kevin or Zach drink milk at all, and apparently Carson and Lexie did not think it was bad. I don't know if my day can recover from a start like this, but here is to hoping....

Scarecrow Festival

We had an absolutely crazy day. I think I just woke up in a mood, and did not seem to shake it for most of the day. The kids would not cooperate so that we could actually do something fun, and when they finally did Lexie had an appointment with the Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor in the middle of the day that messed up my plans, not to mention we were there for 1 hour and 45 minutes and only ten of that was actually with the doctor (post for another day). I took all of the kids with me so that we could go straight to the Scarecrow Festival afterwards, but the appointment took WAAAAAYYYYY to long so Zach had to go to football (for one more week, yeah!). Carson and Lexie had a fun time and enjoyed the many bounce slides and carnival games. We stood in line for 2 hours for the bungee jump all of which I made my own kids wait in line, because I AM one of those mom's that thinks you should hold your own place in line. Many parents would stand in for their kids and then when they got close all these kids came from nowhere to but in front of us and one mother had the gall to tell me how sorry she felt for her husband who had spent his whole time at the festival in that line saving spots for his kids while they enjoyed the other activities. Now the first born in me comes out and I say calmly that my children have waited nearly two hours themselves, because they are the ones who will actually do the bungee jump. WOW! she says to me like I am from another planet, and says that basically her husband is a saint and her son says to me that he must be pretty lucky that his dad loved him enough to stand in line for him. WHAT!!! I had to turn my head before I totally lost it which would not take much because I was already in a mood. I told my kids how proud I was of them for doing it themselves and that is how everyone should do it. They absolutely loved doing the bungee jump and when we were finished 2 hours and 10 minutes later, it was 8:30 pm and the festival was pretty empty. Feeling bad for how many things they missed while waiting in line I said that we would stay until they kicked us out, at 9:00 pm and on a school night (I know, propably a contradiction from the mother who makes her own kids wait in line, now lets them stay out late on a school night that was my guilt coming through for having missed out on so much, now I have guilt for keeping them out late I definitely have guilt issues). On our way out of the festival we ran into Shawn Bradley who played professional basketball, and is from Emery County (we used to live by his brother). I took the kids picture with Shawn he is 7ft. 6in. tall can you even believe that?
All in all we had a great time.

Fall Break

My parents had invited us to go camping with them for Fall Break weeks ago. As the break got closer and closer we had not decided what we were going to do. Tuesday night Kevin and I were talking about all our options. Neither of us knew that Carson was hearing our whole conversation. We were not going to be able to go camping as a family because Zach had previous commitments and we were contemplating the idea of noone going or some going and some not. Carson out of the blue says that if we were not going to go camping he was positive that Grandma and Grandpa would take just him and he was ready to call them right then. Kevin and I decided that Carson, Lexie, and I would go with my parents and he would work Thursday and spend Friday with Zach and send him off on his campout with the Scouts. Carson called Grandma and Grandpa and the plans were finalized. Carson was so excited about camping that he helped get everything ready, and was the first one up on Thursday asking if it was time to go yet.

As a family we love to go camping, but since we moved here we have not been. Our family is getting older and as a result busier. More people have obligations and commitments. We find it harder and harder to get out and enjoy the great outdoors (just ask Jon or Wendy they have been trying for years to get us to go camping).

My parents and I met in Nephi and headed to Lehman Caves National Park just inside the border of Nevada. My family went to this National Park when I was a teenager. On the way we stopped in Delta at the cheese factory and bought "squeaky cheese". My kids loved it and we even stopped on the way back as well.

When we got to the campground Grandpa, Lexie, and Carson found us a fabulous spot. Their were several groupings of trees that Lexie instantly said could be a great play house. My parents and I instantly laughed because that is exactly what I would do when I was little. The weekend before the area had six inches of snow. Their was still snow in the campground and the table was iced over, but the sun was out and everything was good. We cleared off the ice and the table dried. We set up the humoungous tent and set up camp. The weather couldn't have been better. After setting up Lexie went to work on her play house outlining each room with rocks and kept her busy for hours. Carson went to work with Grandpa collecting firewood and sawing off logs for the fire. He took on this responsibility and enjoyed being the fire guy. He started the camping trip not knowing at all what to do to start a fire, by Saturday he started the fire with one match and no newspaper to help it get going. He was so proud of himself and his confidence grew.

At nighttime we played games by the light of the lantern in our huge tent. The Pay Day game for traditions sake because thats what we would play when we were little. We played Sorry and Grandma surprised Carson and Lexie with the candybar game. We read one whole Junie B Jones book which Grandpa had never heard of but laughed all the way through it. We watched the lantern go out and cause Owl Eyes which the kids loved and experienced for the first time. The first night seemed to go on forever, because everyone but Grandpa had to go to the bathroom in the night, and all one at a time.

Friday as we were making breakfast six deer walked past our campsite. That was awesome. After breakfast we went on a leisure 3 mile hike the Park Ranger said was good for kids. Whatever, there is no way that was only 3 miles just ask my legs which are still sore and there is nothing leisure about walking straight up. We had fun crossing numerous bridges and seeing animal tracks. Of course the kids did better than the adults. We went to the actual Lehman Cave for a guided tour in the afternoon and we had a great time learning and exploring the cave. We learned lots of crazy things they used to do in there, like have weddings and receptions, dances, and the early guides would dress up as Cavemen. It was a lot of fun.

The second night was a lot better, everyone slept better and noone had to get up and use the bathroom. We made adjustments in the beds to make everyone less cold, which as a result also helped the bathroom issue.

Saturday morning Lexie asked if this was the last day and I said yes and she kept asking me and Grandpa if we could all stay one more day. That made Grandpa's day and he knew the kids had a great time.

It was a great weekend! It was so nice to be away from my cell phone, and my never ending to-do-list, and really enjoy my kids and experience things with them that they have never done before. I will never forget the look on Lexie's face as she took everyone on a tour of her house in the woods. I will never forget the look on Carson's face and the sense of accomplishment he had for starting the fire all by himself with one match. We made a lot of memories and next time we will all go together.

Mascot Bowl

Our family loves the Mascot Bowl. It is fun to sit with friends and come together as a community to watch the Mascots from all over take on the 8th grade football team.

Incredible

If I had to describe the Women's Broadcast in one word it would be incredible. I loved each and every speaker. Sister Beck is amazing and I love her. She has a conquer the world attitude that is contagious. She makes you proud to be a woman and to be a part of Relief Society. She says we haven't even begun to accomplish the things we can do with Relief Society. I felt Sister Beck's love for me and for all of us.

President Uchtdorf talked about how many of us feel inadequate and seem to always fall short. I felt like he was talking straight to me. I felt the spirit so strong as he shared the message that I am a daughter of my Heavenly Father and that he cares about me personally and the trials I am going through.

President Uchtdorf also talked alot about service and how service to others brings us blessings, and the biggest blessing can be that we recognize that others might have it worse than us. He said that many times we are the answer to another's prayer. He called it an instrument in God's hands and that many prayers are answered this way. I want to be the answer to someone's prayer. I know many people have been answers to my prayers.

I left the meeting excited and extremely motivated to do better and be better. I can only hope that the feeling will last.
